Seize the day
Acrylic 48x36 While talking to Rick and Elizabeth their desire was a piece that would showcase the gathering or blending of two families. Carpe Diem is Rick's favorite phrase. This phrase became the focus for me. Carpe Diem is latin for the gathering also seize the day. As usual every window and sign is created for their family members. Rick's mother loved to dance with her long time friend Bill so they are going to dance forever with their private pianist in their very own dance studio. Aunt Betty owns BEK Event Planning which sums up her life through her years of working in the country club environment and keeping the family together. Betty is all about business, so I have her working late this evening with her back to us, but in all reality she is working to take care of her family. Rick’s son Zachary has an appreciation of politics. This room is full of organized chaos with someone working the phones while everyone else watches the campaign results on several televisions in the background. Amaura, Rick’s daughter is the owner of a wine bar called Amaura’s Best Cellars. My latest print release “Hidden Potential” adorns the wall along with a personal case of vino for the Hafers and myself. The sign out front is for Elizabeth parents and siblings with Blumers 30 day tours. The sign has the 68 Chrysler wagon that took them on month long trips in the summer. The wagon cruises along leaving the flying clothes behind. Elizabeth's daughter already shows an interest for business and on this day she is the headline story on the Wall Street Journal by becoming a CEO. Many of Rick and Elizabeth's family gatherings are spent at their round dinning room table. In this restaurant The Round Table, many of the guests are ready to eat, but the Blummer side of the family is on their own schedule, still showing up and chatting in the background. What I take away from this painting is acceptance. Everyone in a family has different interests and philosophies. Through acceptance one can eventually appreciate these differences. Carpe Diem, Seize the day, realize and make the best of these moments.
